Indonesia's coal exports plummeted by 61.14 percent during January

The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that coal exports in the January 2022 period decreased both in value and volume.
However, BPS could not confirm whether the decline was purely due to the ban on coal exports that had been imposed by the government or other factors.
"Perhaps this decline in exports is not solely due to the export ban, there may also be other influences or indicators such as international prices, and so on," said BPS Deputy for Distribution Statistics and Services, Setianto, in a press conference, Tuesday (15 February).
Setianto said that the value of coal exports in January 2022 reached 1.07 billion US dollars. This value when compared to December 2021 (month to month/mtm) decreased by 61.14 percent. As for the volume of coal exports in January 2022, it fell 59.12 percent.
Meanwhile, when compared to January 2021, the export value fell 22.59 percent. Meanwhile, the volume recorded a decline of 61.3 percent.
BPS noted that the international price of coal commodity during last January decreased by 0.81 percent. The price reduction report is based on monitoring from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
It is known that the increase or decrease in global commodity prices will affect export performance every month.
The total export value in January 2022 reached 19.16 billion US dollars. The value fell 14.29 percent mtm but still recorded an increase of 25.31 percent yoy.
The import value reached 18.23 billion US dollars, decreased by 14.62 percent mtm but still increased by 36.77 percent yoy.
Because the export value is still higher, the goods trade balance throughout January 2022 again continued the surplus trend with a value of 930 million US dollars.
