Deputy Minister of BUMN hopes Pertamina's production will increase to reduce imports
JAKARTA -- The Indonesian oil and gas company, Pertamina, has high potential to increase upstream oil production. Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (Wamen BUMN) Kartika Wirjoatmodjo hopes that Pertamina's upstream oil production can increase in order to reduce dependence on energy imports.
"With the increase in biofuel, bioethanol and biodiesel use, it is hoped that import numbers will decrease," said Kartika during a review of the reliability of fuel and LPG distribution at Pertamina's Plumpang Integrated Terminal, North Jakarta, Friday (29/12/2023).
The deputy minister, who is familiarly called Tiko, stated that currently Pertamina's production reaches 416 thousand barrels per day domestically, with an additional around 150 thousand barrels from abroad through acquisition activities.
Tiko said Pertamina's total oil production for domestic consumption reached 560 thousand barrels per day. Pertamina's upstream production must also increase along with increased use of environmentally friendly fuels, such as biofuels, which can help reduce oil imports.
There are a number of strategic steps that have been taken to reduce energy imports. However, in the context of energy production, Pertamina continues to strive to increase domestic oil exploration and production.
