Erick Thohir: Indonesia's culinary industry has great potential go global
JAKARTA -- Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Ad Interim, Erick Thohir, said the tourism sector could be a motor for Indonesia's future economic growth. Indonesia has a tourism attraction that will make a big contribution if it is optimized, both in terms of destinations, culture and culinary.
"Indonesia's tourism industry is only IDR 701 trillion, our mining is around IDR 2,900 trillion, why can't we continue to develop tourism to IDR 2,000 trillion like the UAE, Saudi, Thailand and Singapore," said Erick via his Instagram account, @erickthohir on Sunday (10/12/2023).
Erick also shared a video of a meeting with a young Indonesian chef who works at one of the world's famous restaurants, Jaleo, in Dubai, UAE, on the sidelines of COP28. Erick was amazed by the ability of young Indonesians who were trusted to work at the world's leading Spanish restaurant.
"The culinary sector is also one of the keys to increasing Indonesian tourism, which we encourage to become a force for economic growth," said Erick.
Erick considers this to be proof of the quality of Indonesia's human resources which are able to compete on the global stage. Erick invited young Indonesians to continue working and building the nation.
